EC team to visit J&K shortly to review security for polls: DGP

Asserting that security forces will create a conducive atmosphere for Jammu and Kashmir elections, DGP K Rajendra Kumar today said Election Commission officials will visit the state shortly to review the security situation and availability of forces for the polls.
"Election Commission officials will be visiting the state shortly to review the security situation and availability of forces in Jammu and Kashmir for forthcoming Assembly polls," Kumar told reporters on the sidelines of a function to inaugurate police barracks at the District Police Lines here.
Regarding holding the poll peacefully in the backdrop of rising militancy, the DGP said, "The J&K Police, in assistance with security forces, have conducted polls in the past peacefully and incident-free, besides the recent Parliamentary elections, which were peaceful and incident-free".
"I assure that the forthcoming Assembly elections will also be conducted in a conducive atmosphere and we will create better condition with the help of security forces to ensure incident-free polls this time too," he said.
Replying to a question on the recent encounters, he said "Our security forces have gunned down three militants of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Kupwara and our forces are alert and will continue the operation against militancy".
Asked about cross-border infiltration, he said, "As far as infiltration from Pakistan is concerned, our jawans and security forces are ready and working actively with adequate force to foil their design".
"Security forces will also support us in Assembly elections," he said and added, "As far as launching pads in Pakistan is concerned, the number of militant attempts to infiltrate and launching pads are changing time to time, but we are ready to face any situation.
