The BJP urged the Election Commission (EC) to take cognisance of Union Minister Kamal Nath for allegedly spending more than Rs 50 lakh on his helicopter trips in the Chhindwara constituency.
"We demand that the EC take cognisance of Union Minister Kamal Nath spending more than Rs 50 lakh on his helicopter trips in his Chhindwara constituency," BJP's State level poll-campaign convenor Anil Dave told reporters.
"According to our reports, from March 22 to April 3, Nath spent Rs 53,87,920 on his helicopter to campaign, which included the cost of Rs 4.25 lakh on constructing helipads at 85 places in the constituency," Dave alleged.
"We have sent a complaint to the EC for an independent probe into the issue and add this amount to Nath's poll expenditure," he said, adding that according to information with the BJP, he would cover campaigning in more than 2,000 villages using his helicopter.
Dave also alleged that Nath spent huge sums of money for printing poll slips with his photograph, which are being openly distributed to voters in coloured envelopes.
He said that Nath feels that nobody would be able to beat him from Chhindwara, though the BJP candidate could ensure his defeat.
