The Income Tax Commissioner would also be consulted for keeping a tab on polls expenditure and the use of money power would be strictly curbed, the CEC told reporters here.

On the opposition Congress allegation about possible moves by the government to announce populist measures to woo the voters before enforcement of the model code of conduct, Sampath said the mechanism existed for keeping watch on such moves.

The team of Election Commission headed by Sampath and consisting of Election Commissioner H S Brahma was here to take stock of preparedness of the state for assembly polls.

The team met the Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioners, DGP and other concerned officials, representatives of political parties to get inputs for finalising the dates of elections.

The team also sought the detailed weather chart of the state, especially in the tribal areas, to know the occurrence of snowfall and general weather conditions in the high altitude areas during October, November and December.

Without making any announcement about the possible dates for polls, the CEC said efforts would be made to ensure that the dates did not clash with Dussehra and Diwali festival season.

The weather conditions would also be taken into consideration before finalising the dates, he added.
