Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, chairman of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, made the remarks during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner T C A Raghavan.
During the meeting, both of them expressed their firm desire and commitment to improve relations between the two countries, a statement issued by the National Assembly said.
Raghavan said an appetite for better relations with Pakistan is present across the political divide in India.
They agreed that the communication gap between the parliaments of the two countries needs to be bridged by more frequent interactions.
He sought the involvement of civil society and academia in a sustainable dialogue.
"Leghari wished not to have Pakistan as an electoral issue in the negative sense. Political posturing in order to gain electoral dividends is something that should be discouraged on both sides," the statement said.
