In the wake of police arresting a gang for allegedly looting money from youths after promising jobs in the Railways, East Coast Railway (ECoR) today requested the CBI to probe the case.
"ECoR has formally requested the CBI to take over the case relating to fake/forged recruitments currently in the news in various media about which various complaints are coming up," ECoR said in a statement here today.
In view of largescale operations indicating involvement of many outsiders in the forgery racket, ECoR decided to hand over the case to the CBI, it said adding this was on account of large scale complaints coming from various sectors and in anticipation of a criminal racket operating behind the forgery.
Following the arrest of a gang for allegedly duping gullible youths promising them jobs in the Railways, ECoR had last week launched a campaign to educate people to ensure that they do not fall prey to these types of rackets.
The ECoR had also set up a helpline number 8455885031 for receiving complaints of such type, an official said.
"A big racket is apparently functioning wherein unscrupulous elements are cheating gullible and innocent unemployed youths. Forged call letters and fake joining letters have been issued and fake interviews are also conducted by them," ECoR officials said.

It was also reported that fraud organisations were paying the victims' first month's salary and thereafter discarding communication, they said.
The Railways have already stated that all recruitment were being notified through advertisements in leading newspapers of the country.
"In case there are any doubts regarding genuineness of any call letter or letter of appointment, the prospective candidates can check with the Office of the Chief Personnel Officer of East Coast Railway," it said.
