The East Central Railway (ECR) is working to illuminate over 780 railway crossings under it through solar energy and developing 23 stations as "green station", General Manager Madhuresh Kumar said today.
Installation of solar-driven electricity supply has been completed on 511 railway crossings.
In rest 272, work would be completed in next 15 days, Kumar said at a meeting of officials of electricity wing of the ECR at zonal headquarters at Hajipur.
ECR comprises five divisions - Danapur, Mughalsarai, Dhanbad, Samastipur and Sonepur.

Rajak said Rambhadrapur station under Samastipur division is an example of "Green station."
The ECR is celebrating energy conservation week from December 8 to December 14.
The GM said that as part of energy conservation steps, electronic metre has been installed in all Railway quarters to put a stop to mentality of using electricity more than required. This would help save around Rs 5 crore in a year, he said.
An additional advantage of this would be saving of around 400 kilo litre of diesel used for emergency supply which would again save about Rs 1.33 crore revenue of the zone, the GM added.
The ECR GM also stressed on lowering traction bill (electricity consumption for running trains) through better operational practises to cut short wastage.
Chief Engineer Electricity M K Mathur talked in detail about energy supply system in the zone.
