The Lokayukta police Thursday caught an accountant posted in the education department of the Madhya Pradesh government while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 16,000 for clearing pending bills, an official said.
The accountant, Kalyan Sharma, is currently posted in the office of District Project Coordinator in Dhar district, Lokayukta's Superintendent of Police (SP) Dilip Soni said.
He had asked a local vendor to pay a bribe of Rs 16,000 for clearing his pending bills of Rs 1.64 lakh related to photocopies, data entry and other works, the SP said.
A trap was laid and Sharma was caught while allegedly accepting the bribe money, Soni said.
A case was registered against the accountant under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the SP added.
