Education officials, managements of teachers training

The Jammu Crime Branch today booked officials of the State Board of School Education and managements of some teachers training institutions here for grant of affiliation to these institutions in alleged violation of the norms.
The Crime Branch has registered a case against officials of J&K Board of School Education (BOSE), managements of some elementary teachers training institutions and other interested persons for granting affiliation and permission in gross violation of the norms and indulging in malpractices, a spokesman of the Crime Branch said.
A communication from the Chairman, J&K Board of School Education, Srinagar, addressed to IGP Crime Branch, J&K alongwith an enquiry report of Secretary BOSE, Srinagar, was received in Crime Branch, Jammu, he said.

The report revealed that elementary teachers training course conducted by the institutes involved a huge scandal where money to the tune of hundreds of crores had exchanged hands as bribe, he said.
Giving details of the report, he said, the ETT institutions did not fulfil even the basic norms and standards laid down by the National Council for Teachers Education, but were allowed to run the courses without issuance of NOC from the state government, which is granted after conducting periodic inspections of institutions.
The institutions lured candidates and took Rs 45,000 to Rs 80,000 from them through touts to provide degrees and certificates. But they neither registered the candidates in time nor conducted classes or provided hostel facilities to them, he said.

By abusing their official positions, the accused J&K BOSE officials had fraudulently granted affiliation to these institutions in gross violation of the norms, the spokesman said.
