Congress leader Ramakant Khalap today alleged that the NDA government was attempting to impose its ideology on educational institutions which were working under "extreme pressure".
"The scenario in the entire country is that the educational institutions are under extreme pressure. That is the reason why the JNU thing happened," the former Union minister said at a press conference here.
"The autonomous status of educational institutions is being undermined by the NDA government, which is trying to thrust its ideology on them," he alleged.
The former MP from Goa said the coastal state, where BJP- led government is in power, is no exception to this trend.
"There is interference in functioning of the Goa University (GU), which has been instructed to cancel affiliation of a few colleges," Khalap claimed.
"I fear the GU may go the JNU or Hyderabad University way. We may see in GU what happened in these universities," the former Union Law Minister said.
He said the GU faculty and students must be vigilant and oppose any attack on the university's autonomy or interference in its functioning.
