Educational institutions across the country today observed the National Unity Day, with students being administered the national unity pledge even as the programmes of some schools were podcast live.
CBSE had appointed 250 centre co-coordinators in schools across the country to mark the occasion as the students also took part in a Run for Unity soon after taking the pledge.
HRD minister Smriti Irani participated in the event at a Kendriya Vidyalaya here and administered pledge to the students.
One of the lines of the unity pledge read as : "I take this pledge in the spirit of unification of my country which was made possible by the vision and action of Late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel."
UGC had also sent a communication to all vice chancellors to observe the day in college and university campuses.
The day also celebrated in the NCERT campus with the officiating director B K Tripathi administering the pledge of National Unity to all the official.
In a communication earlier to schools CBSE had said the commemoration of Patel's birth anniversary as National Unity Day would allow the students to further spread the message and they will act as unity, safety and security ambassadors.
About 350 selected centres were also separately involved in spreading the message by inviting students from their neighbourhood schools.
