"The new Frontier, besides guarding and maintaining the sanctity of the international border, have been carrying out civic action programmes", Inspector General P K Wahal said while addressing troops during the First Raising Day of the Frontier at Patgaon near here.
The troops are also involved in assisting civil administration in disaster management as witnessed during boat capsizing incident in Dhubri Distt on April 30, 2012, he said.
The troops on the border have been found dominating their respective area of responsibility round-the-clock through observation posts, patrolling on foot, patrolling both on vehicle and boat during day time, Wahal pointed out.
Fool proof domination of border during night is also ensured by way of Ambush cum Patrolling (ACP) along the fence, depth areas and patrolling both in vehicle and boat, he said.
In addition to human efforts, troops have been making extensive use of force multipliers like Hand Held Thermal Imagers (HHTI), Night Vision Devices (NVD) and Night Vision Goggles (NVG) for fool-proof security of the border.
The jurisdiction of the new Frontier comprising of three Sector headquarters and 10 battalions was spread over riverine terrain of Dhubri district under mighty Brahmaputra River and enclaves in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal.
