Efforts being made to reduce pending cases: Kaul

Efforts are being made to reduce the number of pending cases in courts so that no case beyond five years is left, Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said today.
Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a new judicial complex- Tower of Justice - in Gurgaon, Justice Kaul said cooperation of advocates is a must to resolve the issue of pendency and also appealed to them to provide free services for at least one case every month.
He said during last one year, about 50,000 pending cases have been decided in courts in the states of Punjab and Haryana.
Justice Kaul along with Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda inaugurated the project which would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 113 crore.
The complex includes three projects including District Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre and Lawyers Chambers.
In his address, Justice Kaul said that the new judicial complex will have ultra modern facilities. He said that efforts are being made to ensure best facilities to the advocates so that they get appropriate place to sit with their clients on the court premises.

"The ultimate objective is dispensation of speedy and inexpensive justice to all," Justice Kaul noted.
He appreciated the efforts of Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HSLSA) and said that the advocates should also contribute in this regard by providing free services for at least one case every month.
Earlier, Hooda said that judiciary is strong pillar of democracy and that the advocates should not only do their legal practice but also the show right path to the society.
He recalled that advocates played significant role in freedom struggle. "Mahatma Gandhi, Moti Lal Nehru, Lala Lajpat Rai, Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, all were advocates," he pointed out.
According to Hooda, till now about 16 lakh cases have been settled in 64,000 Lok Adalats organised in Haryana.
