Addressing a seminar on "Delhi's minorities: Problems and Solutions" organised by Federation for Educational Development, she said there was no lack of will on the part of her government "but it takes time for things to take shape".
The FED handed her a 15-point memorandum demanding complete implementation of the Sachar Committee report and give second official language status to Urdu for overall development of minority community.
"Urdu is a sweet language, it originated in Delhi but I can assure you that we won't let it die. I can assure you that we don't lack the will but some things take time to take shape and we will make all efforts to raise the status of the language," Dikshit said.
Same constitutional status to Delhi Minority Commission as SC/ST Commission, removal of three years residential clause for Muslim students to provide scholarship, recognition of minority schools by Delhi government and municipal corporations and recruitment of Urdu teachers in government schools and Department of Urdu in Delhi University colleges are also among the demands.
The Federation also demanded hiring of Urdu typist and Urdu translator in all government departments, opening of separate Urdu District Institute of Education and Training centres and provision of Unani and BUMS doctors to promote Ayush by opening centres at various parts of the city.
