The government is spending large sums on improving the education system in the state, Majithia said here.
"The government recruited more than 55,000 new teachers, is opening new primary schools and upgrading 858 primary schools, besides spending Rs 141 crore on infrastructure development," Majithia said.
Due to these efforts, the drop-out rate in the schools of Punjab has "sharply declined", Majithia said.
As many as six new Universities and 17 post-graduate colleges have been set-up in the state and the Mohali town is being developed as a knowledge city, he added.
