Cochin Port Trust is in talks with departments concerned to minimise the delay at Walayar checkpost, bordering Tamil Nadu and Kerala, so that more cargo could reach the port, without any hurdles and at the right time, a top official today said.
Responding to concerns expressed by manufacturers and exporters from this region, Shibu, CEO, International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICCT), Kochi, said CPT Chairman Paul Antony had held a meeting last week with the heads of the department in this regard.
Exporters expressed concerns over abnormal delay in clearance at the checkpost, by which the delivery of goods and reaching the vessels were also delayed, incurring loss to the manufacturers, during an interaction with Port Trust officials, organised by the local Chapter of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this evening.
Stating that Kerala government had already taken up the issue some time ago by installing more counters, he said the delay will be reduced, so that goods reach before time at the destination.
Antony, who was to address industrialists, rushed back to Kochi, following a boat accident there, in which six persons were killed.
C Unnikrishnan Nair, Traffic Manager, CPT, said there were lot of investment opportunities, as a 102-acre Free Trade Warehousing Zone is being tendered out for development by the private sector in the port area to build on the advantages of ICCT.
