The Union Human Resources Development Ministry has granted approval to the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) to start Certificate of Proficiency Programmes (CoP) at its off-campus centre proposed at Malappuram.
Union Minister of State for HRD Shashi Tharoor said in a press release here that the decision in this regard had been conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor of EFLU on September 9.
The classes would be held in hired buildings till the construction work of the centre was completed. The state government had already provided land for setting up the centre in Malappuram.
Malappuram is EFLU's third centre outside its home-base Hyderabad, the other two being Lucknow and Shillong.
The decision to start a centre of the EFLU at Malappuram was part of efforts to bring nationally-acclaimed educational institutions to the state, the release said.
