"Penguin has had an unparallelled position in the Indian market for the last 25 years...We are delighted to add our portfolio, including Tintin, Enid Blyton and Mr Men, to the range of children's titles they bring to the market in India," Egmont UK group sales director Gillian Laskier said in a statement.

The UK publisher, which sells more than 25 million books and 12 million magazines annually, anticipates a boost in the sales of its publications with this deal.

"We already have a large number of international and local children's books under the Puffin and Ladybird imprints and this deal will add to our portfolio," Vice-President, Penguin Books India, Hemali Sodhi told PTI.

The books, which will be available in the Indian market from January next year, has been popular among children for decades.

"The strength of Egmont's famous brands together with the quality of our sales and marketing and broad distribution reach, will see Penguin India become the destination for the very best of children's publishing in India," said Andrew Phillips, CEO and President, Penguin India.

"We are all immensely excited to be working with Egmont and being able to bring a bigger catalogue of their great titles to the Indian market," he added.
