An Egyptian court has sentenced 29 defendants it describes as Islamist supporters of the ousted president to five years in prison each on several charges including rioting.
Today's ruling by Nasr City Misdemeanor court is in connection to demonstrations staged to protest the overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi by the military in July.
Morsi's ouster followed days of mass demonstrations demanding his resignation.
The sentences come a day after a southern court issued death sentences to more than 700 people it says are Morsi supporters in mass trials, linked to violence last summer, that draw condemnation from rights groups.
Among those sentenced was the spiritual leader of Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood group. The sentences are not final and are expected to be overturned on appeal.
