An Egyptian blogger says he was sentenced to three months in prison for "insulting the police" and "misusing the internet," over a YouTube video.
The video criticizes police officials for recently presenting a belly dancer with an award and shows men in police uniforms belly dancing inside the police academy and in the street.
Ahmed Anwar told The Associated Press that the verdict was issued today by a court in the Nile Delta city of Tanta and that he would appeal. He said the ruling contradicts articles in the newly passed constitution that protect freedom of speech.
Egyptians approved the new constitution, hailed as a milestone of a military-backed transition plan, in a popular referendum last week.
