Islamist Brotherhood leaders Mohamed el-Beltagy and Safwat Hegazy along with Al-Jazeera journalist Ahmed Mansour were sentenced for torturing lawyer Osama Kamal for three days.
Muslim Brotherhood members and loyalists Omar Zaky, Mohsen Rady, Osama Yassin and Judge Mahmoud El-Khodeiry were also given three-year sentences, Al-ahram reported today.
Kamal had filed a complaint in 2011 accusing the defendants of beating and torturing him during the 18-day Tahrir Square sit-in after claiming he was a police officer when he failed to show them an identity card.
Thousands of Brotherhood members and loyalists of ousted president Mohamed Morsi have been arrested over the past year on numerous charges, including inciting and committing violence against their opponents.
