An angry Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi today vowed to respond with "brutal force" against militants who killed at least 235 worshippers at a mosque in the restive North Sinai region during Friday prayers.
The worshippers were killed when heavily-armed militants bombed the mosque and opened fire on people attending prayers at the al-Rowda mosque in Al-Arish city, in the deadliest terror attack in Egypt.
The President said that the military would avenge the attack and respond with "brutal force" against militants.
The attack will only make Egypt stronger to fight terrorism, he said.
Sisi also chaired an emergency meeting with officials to review security situation after the deadly attack.
India's Ambassador to Egypt Sanjay Bhattacharyya condemned the attack as "mindless violence" which he said "overtook sanity and held humanity hostage".
"Condemn terrorism, stand with people and government of Egypt in this difficult hour and join hands in fight against terrorism," Bhattacharyya tweeted.
