MENA reported today that prosecutors released the fans of Cairo's Al-Ahly club, known as Ultras, on their own recognisance pending an investigation over accusations of they rioted at the airport. The prosecution said the detainees have paid for the damage.
In October, Al-Ahly's Ultras headed to the airport to receive the handball team affiliated with the club. They clashed with security forces who said they tried storm to an airport terminal.
The deeply politicised fans frequently clash with police inside and outside of stadiums. Many prominently participated in the country's 2011 uprising that forced out President Hosni Mubarak.
