Clad in their best, men and children offered namaz at Eidgahs next to mosques in the state capital, at Byrnihat, Lad Rymbai, Dawki, Nongpoh and in the Garo Hills too.
Over 10,000 people offered prayers at the Eidgah ground of the Madina Masjid in the state capital. The masjid is the biggest glass mosque in the entire north eastern region.
Meghalaya Governor Banwari Lal Purohit and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma greeted the people of the state on the occasion.
Extending his wishes, Sangma said, "May this festival enable us to reaffirm our commitment to spread the spirit of love compassion and empathy to further strengthen the elements of understanding, tolerance and solidarity which will go a long way in building a more inclusive society for the prosperity of all."
Muslims constitute less than five percent of the three million people in the state.
