Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated with religious fervor in Meghalaya

Thousands of Muslim faithfuls today celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with religious fervor and gaiety across Meghalaya, marking the end of Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
Clad in their best attire, men and children offered Namaz-e-Eid at eidgahs next to mosques in the state capital, at Byrnihat, Lad Rymbai, Dawki, Nongpoh and in the Garo Hills too.
Over 9,000 devotees offered prayers at the Eidgah ground of the Madina Masjid here, the biggest glass mosque in the entire north eastern region.
Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma greeted the people of the state on the occasion.
"I hope that this joyous festival, which celebrates the end of Ramadan, will spread the message of brotherhood and compassion in our society," the Governor said in his message.

Extending his wishes, Chief Minister Sangma said, "Eid marks the end of month-long fasting, it also celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity and re-inforces the obligations that people of all faiths have to each other".
