Clad in their best attire, men and children offered Namaz-e-Eid at eidgahs next to mosques in the state capital, at Byrnihat, Lad Rymbai, Dawki, Nongpoh and in the Garo Hills too.
Over 9,000 devouts offered prayers at the Eidgah grounds at Madina Masjid here, the biggest glass mosque in the entire north-eastern region.
Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma greeted the people of the state on the occasion.
"I hope that this joyous festival, which celebrates the end of Ramadan, will spread the message of brotherhood and compassion in our society," the Governor said in his message.
