Eight dead, 25 injured in accidents

Four persons died on the spot and seven were injured when the lorry in which they were travelling turned turtle due to tyre burst in Siranoor village, about 14 km from Gulbarga, Superintendent of Police N Satish Kumar told reporters.

The four died when they jumped out of the lorry the moment the tyre burst but as the vehicle overturned they came under it and died.

The injured have been admitted to hospital, Kumar said.

In another mishap, four women died on the spot and 18 others were injured when their tractor turned turtle in Basavanahalli village in Arsikere police station limits, about 35-40 km from Davanagere, Superintendent of Police, Labu Ram said.

The injured have been admitted to a district hospital.

The accident occurred when the passengers were proceeding from Kottu in Bellary to Kodi Sangameshwara temple in Arsikere police station limits to attend a marriage.

Efforts are on to nab the tractor driver who is absconding.
