Eight kg of ephedrine seized at Chennai airport; 1 detained

Eight kilograms of ephedrine, used illegally in manufacturing drugs, were seized by Narcotics Control Bureau officials from a man at the airport here today.
An NCB team intercepted Mohammed Lafir (35) at the airport as he was trying to smuggle Ephedrine to Kuala Lumpur, NCB Zonal Director A Bruno said in a press release.
Lafir was found carrying two plastic packets of the substance in a carton box above which a grinder was placed.
An illegal party drug N-methyl amphetamine is produced by smuggling Ephedrine to the Far East countries, Bruno said.
Initial investigation revealed that the passenger was to travel to Malaysia,based on directions from his friend in the city.
Lafir was detained and further investigation was on, he added.
