Eight killed in road mishap in Punjab

Eight people, including four women died and nine others were seriously injured when a van they were travelling in allegedly collided with a truck at Ferozepur-Fazilka road, police said today.
Five persons, including two women died on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital later on, when their vehicle rammed into a truck at Alfu Ke village on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road at 7.30 am today, they said.
Two of the injured have been admitted to Civil Hospital in Ferozepur while the rest referred to Government Medical College in Faridkot, police said.
The erring truck driver fled the spot. A case has been registered against him, they said.
Seventeen persons from Guruharsahai, including 13 from Changa Rai Uttar village and two each from Goluke and Pindi were going to Desian village near Jalandhar, to attend a ritual of their "Guru" when the incident took place.
The victims have been identified as Joginder Singh, Dyal Singh, Vishambar Singh, Bhago, Kartaro, Santo, Durgo, and Harmesh Singh, police added.
