At least eight Taliban militants have been killed by security forces in the last 48 hours in Pakistan's financial capital Karachi, police said today.
Rao Anwar, a senior police official, said three foreign terrorists were killed during a raid in the congested Sohrab Goth area here.
The area is known to be infested with militants from tribal areas who have set up safe houses with cooperation of criminal gangs.
The police and paramilitary rangers have in the last two days carried out strong search operations in those parts of the city where the presence of Taliban militants is feared.
Anwar said rangers also killed five Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militants during operations in Mangophir yesterday.
The police also arrested 20 suspects.

Anwar said that six militants had managed to escape from the security cordon in Sohrab Goth.
He did not rule out the possibility of some rogue elements in the police department tipping off these militant gangs about the impending raids.
Police and Rangers have been conducting search operations since 10 terrorists attacked the old Karachi airport terminal building on June 8 in which besides the 10 attackers 29 other persons including security personnel were killed.
Another senior official said the police and rangers stepped up their raids because of the growing incidents of policemen being targeted and killed in different parts of the city.
He confirmed that around 79 policemen had fallen victim to these target killings this year alone.
After the start of the military operation in North Waziristan the TTP have warned they would seek revenge and carry out attacks even in the major urban areas including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi.
