The rebels, all lower-rung cadres, were nabbed from the forest of Chintagufa police station limits when a joint team of security forces was out on a search operation, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Dantewada range) Sundarraj P told PTI.
Troops belonging to Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) and district force were involved in the operation, he added.
Of the arrested, Sodhi Budhra (24), Sodhi Vegur (38), Sodhi Hadma (24), Madvi Deva (25), Dirdo Pojja (23), Dirdo Pandu (19) and Madvi Kosa (36), were allegedly involved in the abduction of at least 10 villagers, including woman sarpanch of Chintagufa, Podiyam Muye, and the woman deputy sarpanch, between September 15-19 this year, the DIG said.
All the seven ultras were active as members of Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (DAKMS)- a frontal wing of Maoists while another arrested ultra- Podiyam Somda (28) was a militia member, he said.
Cases of naxal-related incidents, including attacks on police party, attempt to murder and riots were also registered against the arrested ultras with Chintagufa police station, he said adding that their interrogation was on.
