Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu Thursday honoured eight noted personalities and two organisations of the state for their contribution in their respective fields, at the states 19th Foundation Day function here.
The noted personalities are - Balamdina Tirkey (Pashu sakhi-animal-friend), Dr Sureshwar Pandey (medicine), Giridhar Ram Gaunjhu (tribal and regional languages), Kedia Bandhu (brothers) for Sarod and Sitar, Birsa Munda (progressive farmer), Amitabh Mukherjee (sculpture), Madhumita Kumari (archery) and Nikki Pradhan (hockey).
The two organisations felicitated are - Pan IIT Alumni Reach for Jharkhand Foundation, Ranchi for Skill Development and Rural Poultry Independent co-operative society, Gumla, for women's self-reliance.
Each of them got cheque of Rs one lakh, citation and a replica of Tribal icon Birsa Munda.
Jharkhand was carved out from Bihar on November 15, 2000 by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
