Eight persons held in Jharkhand
Press Trust of India Khunti (Jharkhand) Eight persons, including two ultras, were arrested in connection with setting ablaze of six vehicles ahead of Jharkhand Bandh that had been called by the ultra outfit "People's Liberation Front of India" (PLFI) in protest against recent police firing in Gumla district early this month.
The kingpin, Birsa Pahan alias Chaitan and Mahadeo Munda, both PLFI activists, were among the eight persons arrested by the police from Khunti district last night, Sub-divisional Police Officer, Khunti, Deepak Kumar Sharma said.
Addressing a press conference here today, Sharma said Chaitan, a former Maoists who switched over PLFI, had been Assam, where he had joined an ultra outfit before he return to the state recenty.
Chaitan was the kingpin of the grup that torched six vehicles in Siladon village under extremist-hit Khunti district hours before the Jharkhand bandh called in protest against the killing of two innocent villagers in Gumla district early this month..
Over a dozen PLFI had arrived in the village on Saturday night and set on fire three JCV machines, two vaccum roller and a car parked in the premises of school.
