Eighty people with criminal background who were at large for years have been arrested in less than past ten weeks from Jeypore town and sadar areas of Koraput district during a special drive to execute non-bailable warrants (NBW), the police said today.

The NBWs were pending at the police stations since long. Hence, we launched a special drive to execute the NBWs with an aim to make Jeypore and its peripheral areas free from crime. The arrests are being done under the special drive, said Koraput Superintendent of Police Kanwar Vishal Singh.

While 63 persons with NBW were arrested under Jeypore town police station, the rest 17 were held from Jeypore sadar police station, the SP said.

"Still over 200 people with NBW under the jurisdiction of Jeypore town police station are at large and at no cost they will be spared. Our drive will be intensified in coming days it will continue till the last person with NBW is arrested, he said.

Singh said three special squads had been formed to track down the movement of the people with NBW and based on intelligence inputs surprise raids were being conducted.

Apart from this, the police have arrested over 100 others with crimial background, including 20 ganja smugglers, under the two police stations in the past few months.
