killed by miscreants at Sonitpur district of Assam when they were returning from a Durga Puja mandap late last night.
Police said the couple, Philip Hembrom (60) and Phulmoni Hembrom (50) of Bishnupur near the Assam-Arunachal border were attacked near their home with sharp weapons.
Both of them succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while the miscreants fled.
The cause of the attack on the couple is yet to be ascertained, while police have launched a manhunt.
Meanwhile, the two sons of the old couple were also picked up by police for interrogation this morning to find if any family fued was involved in the attack.
