Elderly couple robbed of 8.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery

: An septuagenarian and his wife were robbed of 8.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery atgunpoint by a masked two member gang at their house near Kodenchery in the district, police said today.
The duo,who gained entry into the house at around 9.00 pm last night after pressing the calling bell, also took away two mobile phones from P Augustin (74) andhis wife Gracy, staying alone in the house
The couple, in their complaint, said the gang sought some rice when Augustinopened the door, made their way in after brandishing a gun and forced them to part with a four sovereign gold chain and bangles weighing 4.5 sovereigns.

They escaped after threatening the couple, police said
Though some reports stated that the duo were Maoists, police did not confirm it.
