Acting on a complaint of septuagenarian Niva Banerjee, a resident of Purbachal Housing in Salt Lake, Bidhannagar Police nabbed Raju Sil, Samiran Dey and Omshankar Mandal last night, a senior officer said.
Banerjee, widow of Late Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, got a call from an insurance agent, Raju Sil, asking for enrolling for a new policy this March.
The 72-year-old told Sil she was quite old for a new policy, but if he could help her getting the money from the policies her late husband had enrolled for.
"Sil along with Dey visited the old lady's house and convinced her that because her late husband had life insurance policies against his name and she was the nominee, she will get a healthy amount which she can further use for other new short-term policies.

"And in the process they took five cheques on pretext of making five new life insurance policies amounting to Rs 5,15,000 which they later debited from the bank," the officer said.
When produced at a local court the accused were remanded for a seven-day police remand, he said.
