Elderly man found dead in his house

A 76-year-old man was found dead in his house here with police suspecting it to be a case of murder.
V P Sahani, a retired postal department employee, was found dead last night in his house at Housing Board Colony close to sector 9 at Ambala City, police said today.
He was living alone while his son Rajiv was staying with his wife at Kachha Bazaar area at Ambala Cantt, police said.
One of the neighbours of the deceased noticed that the door of Sahani's house was opened and foul smell was coming from his room.
When he went inside the house, he found that Sahani was lying on the bed unconscious and informed police.
The body was transported to civil hospital last late night, police said, adding, marks of sharp injuries were found on his neck during post mortem.

Forensic experts were summoned who detected blood spots on the door of the deceased's room.
SHO Sadar Police Station Jaspal Singh said that mobile phone and other valuables of the deceased were found intact in the room while the younger brother of the deceased who came from Jammu today said two of the gold rings and cash of his brother were found missing.
He said that a servant of a hotel used to come in the house to supply lunch and dinner to Sahani and said this is a case of murder.
While Sahani's son Rajiv said, "My father was a kind-hearted and non-controversial man therefore no question of any old enmity rises."
Police have registered a murder case against unknown persons and investigating the matter.
