Elderly man held with over 1,000 bottles of cough syrups

A 65-year-old man was arrested with ganja and as many as 1,840 bottles of cough syrups from his house in suburban Govandi, the police said today.
Based on a specific information, the teams of Govandi and Tilak Nagar police stations raided the house of Rashid Sheikh yesterday.
Police found 4.78 kgs of ganja, 1,840 bottles of cough syrups of different makes in his house, a police official said, adding that the total market value of the seized material is Rs 2.27 lakh.
"We seized the drugs and arrested Sheikh from the spot. He has been booked under relevant sections of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act," he said.

Sheikh was produced in court today, which remanded him in police custody till August 29, the official said, adding that the police are trying to find out how could Sheikh procure the syrups and whether he had kept the material for his own use or was to hand it over to somebody.
