An elderly pilgrim from Odisha died today after falling into a river while returning from Yamunotri in Garhwal Himalayas.
Gulab Chand, 70, a resident of Balangir district in Odisha, was leaving after paying obeisance at the shrine along with his family when he felt dizzy, Yamunotri Police station in-charge Vinod Thapliyal said.
"As he leaned against a roadside railing to rest, he began to vomit and fell headlong into the river flowing underneath," he said.
His family members reported the matter to the police who rescued the man and rushed him to Yamunotri seasonal hospital where he died during treatment.
"The body has been handed over to the family," Thapliyal said.
