Akhila Gayan was engaged in fishing in the crocodile- infested water body when she was suddenly being dragged deep into the water-body by the crocodile, a forest official said.
However, a group of fellow fishermen who were there at the ghat raised alarm and rescued the woman, who suffered multiple injuries and has been admitted in the government-run Mahakalpada Community Health Centre.
She is currently out of danger, hospital sources said.
The areas close to Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary have witnessed several such attacks in the past. A man was killed and at least six injured following crocodile attack in last two months.
The forest official, Divisional Forest Officer, Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) forest division, Bimal Prasanna Acharya said his department would bear the cost of treatment of the woman.
Besides the department would also award compensation sum to the family of injured person as per revised rules.
