A 65-year-old woman from Rajasthan died in front of the sanctum sanctorum at the famous Saibaba shrine today, police said.
The incident occurred when the pilgrim, identified as Ratan Devi Ganeshlal Agrawal, a resident of Bikaner, was prostrating in front of the sanctum sanctorum at around 10 AM, police said.
"She was rushed to Saibaba Sansthan's hospital where doctors declared her dead," they added.
Usha Kandoi, who was accompanying Agrawal, said the elderly had climbed steps to secure an entry pass for darshan from the office of Shirdi Sansthan Trust.
"She (Agarwal) was brought to the temple in a wheelchair. However, she got down to take darshan due to (a) long queue. She complained of chest pain and was offered water. However, after entering the 'Samadhi mandir' she collapsed while doing prostration," Kandoi said.
Police said the post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow to ascertain the exact cause behind Agarwal's death.
