"The carcass of the elephant was found lying on a pulses field this morning. It was a member of a herd of 50 elephants that came from Dalma range of forest in neighbouring Jharkhand," Barjora Forest Range Officer Mohan Chandra Shit said.
The villagers informed the forest officials after spotting the carcass, he said adding that the carcass has been sent for post-mortem.
The elephant herd has been roaming in Saharjora jungle of the district and have come to the area to feed on the grains and crops of the fields.
