"The movement of sector officers in at least two polling booths was disrupted for a few minutes when the road they were travelling were blocked by a herd of 30-40 wild elephants crossing the same road," South West Garo Hills district Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh told PTI.
The incident took place at around 7 am when the sector officers in charge of two polling booths - Nokchi and Halchatti - encountered a big group of wild elephants, he said.
But as they realised, the poll-bound officials scampered for cover before they could inform the district magistrate and sought security from forest guards.
The forest department officials later arrived and cleared the way for the sector officers.
The area is very close to the Indo-Bangladesh border and is frequented by jumbos.
