The elephant was rescued by locals at Jakhalabandha Hatimura area on July 3 from the swollen river and handed over to the forest department, official sources said today.
The pachyderm was admitted to the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) for medical treatment but
died yesterday, the sources said.
The CWRC is the first rescue and rehabilitation centre near a protected area in the country set up in August 2002 with the primary aim to stabilise displaced animals and release them back into the wild.
