elephants including over 15 tuskers, believed to be from Jharkhand, are roaming Deuli forest range areas in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district destroying standing crops in huge areas.
"The herd is believed to have come from Dalma elephant sanctuary in neighbouring Jharkhand and entered into Banakati and Lodhakundia aras. Efforts are on to push them back into the woods," Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Baripada, Bijay Kumar Panda said here.
However, the rampaging jumbos did not cause any loss to life and property in the area, he said.
Perturbed villagers alongwith forest personnel were making efforts to chase the jumbos by blowing of trumpets, beating drums and lighting 'mashals', the sources said.
"We are making all effort to save our crops from the marauding elephants. But it looks they will not leave the places before destroying the crops", a villagers bemoaned.
Deuli forest range coming under Suliapada police station is adjacent to West Bengal and the elephant corridor which passed though the area linked to Jharkhand, the DFO said.
