Elephants enter army camp, injure daily-wage labourer

A herd of 25 elephants today entered an Army camp in Binnaguri of Jalpaiguri district and injured a daily-wage labourer there, forest department officials said.
Manbahadur Chhetri, a daily-wage labourer, working inside the camp, was injured in the attack by the jumbos and admitted to the cantonment hospital, they said.
Army personnel, with the help of forest department officials, were able to drive away the herd from the cantonment area. The Army camp was not damaged, officials said.
Meanwhile, the body of a 40-year-old mentally challenged man was found in Khairbari jungle in the district and forest officials suspect that he was killed in elephant attack.
The man, identified as Jakir Hossain, a resident of 8 Mile locality of Falakata area, had gone missing since yesterday. The body bore marks of elephant attack, forest department officials said.
