A truck driver was trampled to death on Monday by a herd of wild elephants in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, a forest official said.
The incident occurred around 5:30 am near Bojiya village on Gharghoda-Chhal road under Chhal forest range, said Pranay Mishra, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Dharamjaigarh division.
As per preliminary information, Sanoj Ram (35) had parked his truck along the road that passes through a dense forest after it broke down.
"He was sleeping inside the cabin of the truck when wild elephants suddenly came out of the forest and tried to smash the truck. They broke the truck's windshield with trunks," he said.
Ram jumped out of the vehicle through a window and tried to escape, but he was chased and killed by the pachyderms, the DFO added.
The deceased was a native of Aurangabad district in Bihar.
