Eleven poachers arrested in Assam

Altogether 11 poachers, hailing from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, were arrested from Sonitpur district in Assam today, a police officer said.
Four poachers were arrested from Gohpur in Sonitpur district when they were travelling in a car along with a rhino horn weighing about one kg, district Superintendent of Police Manabendra Dev Ray said.
The arrested were involved in rhino poaching in various parts of the state, Ray said.
Based on information provided by them, another five poachers were arrested from Bandardwa in neighbouring Lakhimpur district as they were travelling in a vehicle and a motor bike, he said.
Police recovered the three vehicles and the horn along with some documents, he said.
Meanwhile, Tezpur river police also arrested two poachers from Burhachapori near river Brahmaputra.
