Eloped couple attempts suicide

An eloped couple, who were being escorted home, attempted suicide in the presence of the police and their family members in Jhunjhunu district, police said today.
The 19-year-old youth, Narendra, died last night while the 17-year-old girl is still in a critical condition after consuming poison yesterday, police said.
The father of the girl had registered a complaint on November 27 against the youth, accusing him of abducting his daughter, police said.
Their location was traced in Ajmer and yesterday the runaway lovers were being escorted back by the police and the family members of the girl.
The couple consumed poison as the party stopped at a restaurant near Nawalgarh on their way, police said.

They were taken to Sikar Hospital from where they were referred to Jaipur, police said, adding investigations are underway.
