Emergency: BJP MP demands pension for detainees of Delhi

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Goel today demanded pension for the detainees from Delhi and their family members, who faced hardships during the Emergency and establishment of a museum to preserve the memories of 21-month-long period.
Goel today visited Tihar jail here with a delegation of the detainees to recount their experiences marking anniversary of imposition of Emergency rule in the country.
The Emergency was imposed on June 25, 1975 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and was in force till it was withdrawn on March 21, 1977.
Demanding pension for the detainees and their families in line with Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, he said "Many families have been ruined due to excesses suffered by thousands of persons during the 21 months of Emergency."
He also demanded setting up of a museum to preserve memories of Emergency rule and said that the democratic values of India cannot be harmed by anyone.
